The IOSA is the benchmark for global safety management in air carriers. The audit's scope included flight operations, operations control, maintenance, inflight services, ground operations, cargo and security. Within each of those areas, auditors determined conformance of US Airways' procedures to IOSA standards and recommended practices contained in the IOSA Standards Manual. The final results showed that US Airways conformed to every IOSA standard.
US Airways Vice President of Safety and Regulatory Compliance Paul Morell said, "This successful completion represents the collaboration of many groups within the airline, the FAA as well as a great IATA sanctioned auditing team."
Added US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker, "We're immensely pleased by the outstanding marks we received as a result of this audit. We could not have done it without the determination, focus and heavy lifting that our safety-conscious employees carry out every day, and on every flight. We look forward to a continued listing on the IOSA Registry as a result of this audit and will continue to make safety the number one priority in everything we do."
Successful completion of the audit results in a listing on the IOSA Registry, which is a requirement for IATA membership and US Airways' continued STAR Alliance membership. US Airways has been listed on the IOSA Registry since 2004.
US Airways is the fifth largest domestic airline employing more than 35,000 aviation professionals worldwide. US Airways, US Airways Shuttle and US Airways Express operate approximately 3,800 flights per day and serve more than 230 communities in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. The new US Airways -- the product of a merger between America West and US Airways in September 2005 -- is a member of the Star Alliance network, which offers our customers 16,000 daily flights to 855 destinations in 155 countries worldwide.
