Research Study Shows 3MRT's InQuizitor Software Improves Student Performance and Information Retention

Posted on: Tuesday, 17 July 2007, 09:04 CDT

A study conducted by the Educational Technology Integration Group has shown that students who used InQuizitor to review and reinforce classroom material showed significant gains in achievement and retention of classroom material when compared against students who did not use the software.

InQuizitor, from 3MRT, is a breakthrough new software application which combines time tested study methods with an addictive and engaging video game environment. InQuizitor is aimed squarely at today's digital natives -- school children of exam age who are immersed in the digital environment. InQuizitor was designed by world class games developers, with guidance from teachers, children, and parents, to help today's students master the critical information required for classroom and exam success. InQuizitor's graphically stimulating interface and competitive gaming environment, combined with a proven multiple choice quiz technique, create a gaming atmosphere which students want to play.

The study was conducted in two Middle Schools in the Southwestern United States. The research design consisted of pretest and posttest comparisons between two treatment groups that used InQuizitor to review classroom material, and two control groups that used traditional methods of study, such as note taking and discussions of ideas taken from historical writings and/or events. Posttest results showed that those students who used InQuizitor achieved a significant increase in learning while later test results showed that this information was retained by the students.

"Our research demonstrates that InQuizitor promotes study of classroom facts in a fun and motivating way" commented Dr. Michael Blocher, Director of the Educational Technology Integration Group. "In addition, we were interested to note the amount of cooperation and collaboration that occurred as the students used InQuizitor, without any guidance from the teachers. Students looked forward to playing with InQuizitor, while their teachers were excited that students were so eager to review their classroom material."

"This study confirms what we have been seeing in the classroom. Students find that InQuizitor provides all the rewards of their favorite gaming programs and at the same time encourages students to study and master information important to academic success" said Euan Mackenzie, CEO of 3MRT. "Our goal is to make the process of study more engaging, exciting and accessible to today's students. InQuizitor is our successful first step in that direction."
