KUTPM Opens Route to Medical Degree
A PROFESSION in the Medical or Health Sciences related areas is possible through the University College of Technology & Management Malaysia (KUTPM) Health Sciences programme.
KUTPM’s School of Health Sciences offers a range of disciplines that are inter-related. The significance of science and technology in solving social and environmental issues adds new perspective to the study of Health Sciences.
At KUTPM, students have the privilege of choice to specialise in Bachelor honours programmes in Biomedicine, Foodservice and Technology, Bioinformatics, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, and Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS).
Specialisation in these areas are gaining popularity and demand, both locally and internationally, as the need for professionals with inter-disciplinary science qualification by government agencies and private corporation increases.
The six Bachelor programmes offered by the school emphasise on the application of basic biological concepts, techniques and integration of Information Technology and management.
Graduates of KUTPM’s School of Health Sciences may pursue their professional qualification in Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy through KUTPM’s International Students Exchange Programme unit (ISEP). Through this unit, students have the option of seven universities in Indonesia and India. Universitas Airlangga (Surabaya, East Java), Universitas Brawijaya (Malang, East Java), Universitas Andalas (Padang, Sumatera), Universitas Sumatera Utara, University of Indonesia and Universitas Padjadjaran (Bandung, West Java) cater for medical, dentistry and pharmacy programmes.
Alternatively, students may opt to pursue the MBBS programme at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, India.
The entry requirements to KUTPM Bachelor programmes through the School of Health Sciences are a pass in SPM or SPMV with credit in Bahasa Melayu and minimum grade C in two subjects, including General Paper and passes D in two subjects in STPM.
Students with KPM Matriculation Certificate, A Level, Foundation and other qualifications recognised by the KUTPM Senate are invited to apply for the Bachelor programmes.
KUTPM’s International Students Exchange Programme (ISEP) provides an international exposure to it undergraduates. Through this department, students have the option of transferring their final year studies to foreign universities that KUTPM is affiliated to.
Undergraduate students may choose over 40 universities in Australia, Canada, UK, US, Indonesia, India and Eastern Europe as a venue for their international academic pursuits.
Students interested in medical, dentistry or pharmacy degree may begin their study with Bachelor in Biomedicine at KUTPM. After completing their Bachelor in Biomedicine with CGPA of 3.50 or above and pass the medical entrance examination, KUTPM will assist the students through its International Students Exchange Programme (ISEP) to further their study in medical, dentistry or pharmacy degree based on credit transfer at any of the affiliated medical universities in Indonesia.
Students with matriculation qualification, STPM or diploma may also pursue the medical, dentistry or pharmacy degree at any of the affiliated medical universities in Indonesia. They must have a CGPA of 3.00 or above and pass the university entrance examination.
Furthermore, it is relatively cheaper in Indonesian universities compared to other foreign universities. The standard of medical courses at these universities is also at par with other medical degrees offered elsewhere. Degrees in medical, dentistry and pharmacy from selected universities in Indonesia are recognised by the Public Service Department and Malaysian Medical Council.
Apart from the School of Health Sciences, KUTPM also offers a range of industrial relevant programmes through the School of Information Sciences and Engineering, School of Business Management and Professional Studies, Center for Foundation Studies, Centre for Flexible Learning and the Graduate Management School.
