Aug. 29–TRIAD — Student enrollments continue to grow at local colleges and universities.
High Point University has enrolled a record 319 graduate students this fall, 27 percent more than last year. HPU offered its first graduate program in 1993. “Each year, more and more people learn about the extraordinary people and graduate education at High Point University,” said Alberta Haynes Herron, dean of the Norcross Graduate School.
New students came from seven states, including North Carolina. They are graduates of 51 colleges and universities across the United States.
Earlier, HPU reported a record freshman class of 736students, twice the size of the 2005 entering class.
Guilford Technical Community College officials projected an enrollment of 10,250 students in curriculum courses for the fall semester. Ed Knight, GTCC dean of enrollment services, said the college’s estimate represents a significant increase over the 9,851 total who enrolled at GTCC last fall.
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro also welcomed its largest freshman class ever this fall, an estimated 2,460 students, up from 2,427 students last year. Chancellor Pat Sullivan earlier said the university has added more than 130 new full-time faculty members.
“That’s a reflection on our phenomenal enrollment growth,” Sullivan said.
