TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Scranton and Bisk Education, Inc., are pleased to announce the first recipients of the Bisk Foundation Scholarship, which recognizes and rewards teachers who demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to social justice. This prestigious scholarship awards financial support to master's degree students enrolled in the Scranton Education Online (SEOL) program.
Up to eight students per year will receive the scholarship - four in the Fall A session and four in the Spring A session. Within each session, two scholarships are available for students entering the Curriculum and Instruction program and two for those entering the Educational Administration program.
Each scholarship will continue through future sessions as long as the recipient remains a qualified SEOL student in good standing. Equivalent to one-quarter of the total tuition costs, the scholarship is currently valued at $3,465 for Curriculum and Instruction and $3,754 for Educational Administration, and will be adjusted to reflect any future tuition increases.
The first three winners of the Bisk Foundation Scholarship are: Curriculum and Instruction - Christine D. Brewster of Suffolk, Virginia, is a math teacher in Suffolk Public Schools. She also participates in after-school tutoring programs to support students requiring extra help in their studies. - Susan Traurig of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, is a fourth-grade teacher in the Propel Charter School and has also worked in the Blackhawk School District. She was employed as a medical lab technician for 13 years before a desire to help young people and her community led her to embark on a teaching career. Educational Administration - Tara Ross-Salman of Hartsdale, New York, is a guidance counselor at Lakeland Regional High School in Westchester County. She plans to leverage her Scranton degree to land a director of guidance position.
"We are proud to partner with The University of Scranton in helping advance the professional development of some of our nation's most accomplished teachers," said Nathan M. Bisk, founder and chairman of Bisk Education, which is the parent company of University Alliance Online.
"In addition to possessing an outstanding academic record, each scholarship recipient must demonstrate how he or she has made a positive impact on the lives of others," noted Mr. Bisk. "Our winners represent the very best of their field; they are committed to making a real difference in the world, and we're honored to be able to help them in their journey."
