Argosy University Announces Appointment of Craig D. Swenson As President
CHICAGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Argosy University Board of Trustees today announced that Dr. Craig D. Swenson, Ph.D. will serve as the next president of Argosy University succeeding Dr. Gregory M. St. L. O'Brien who recently announced his retirement effective December 31, 2007.
Following a three-month search process, the Argosy Board voted Monday to accept the recommendation of the presidential search committee to appoint Dr. Swenson to the post. He will provide leadership to 18 Argosy University campus locations in 12 states.Most recently, Dr. Swenson served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs for the Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah. Previously, he held senior administrative and academic positions at the University of Phoenix, including serving as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Swenson earned a Ph.D. in Education/Adult and Organizational Learning from Walden University and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from Brigham Young University. His Bachelor's degree is in Journalism/Mass Communication from the University of Utah.
He is a member of the U.S. Army Education Advisory Committee and a consultant/evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Dr. Swenson served as a Non-Federal Negotiator for the U.S. Department of Education Negotiated Rulemaking Committee for Accreditation, and was a member of the U.S. Army Distance Education and Training Subcommittee.
He has published and presented extensively in the areas of higher education, organizational management, distance education and faculty development.
