Editorial Generosity and Hope, Part II Modest Contributions Can Make a World of Difference
LAST Thursday, Operation School Bell, a Hollywood-based nonprofit, parked its 72-foot trailer at Reseda Elementary School and helped many low-income students get a good start to the new school year.
What Operation School Bell offered was nothing fancy — clothes, school uniforms, grooming kits, backpacks, shoes and socks — but for many of the kids there, it was a first: the first time they got their own, new school supplies, just for themselves.
The trailer — Operation School Bell on Wheels — operates throughout Southern California, and will make four trips to the San Fernando Valley this year. It’s funded by donations from the community and staffed with volunteers.
Even the smallest of contributions can make a big difference. If you want to help, go to www.operationschoolbell.org/youcanhelp.htm.
