Trinity Offers a Solid Foundation
“WITHOUT a liberal undergraduate education, you may never know that different ideas exist, different rationalities, different histories,” says Trinity College resident student Sana Nakata.
“You’ll never know what it is that you take for granted, what you should question.”
Nakata spoke inspiringly at the launch of the University’s Melbourne Model curriculum in April. She completed the final semester of her Arts/Law degree at the University of Melbourne this year.
Her words will inspire future students to think deeply about what a liberal education has to offer.
“Tertiary education is the opportunity to engage more critically with what we know, whether it is politics, biology or literature. It is the opportunity to learn how the world has shaped us, how the world understands us, as well as how we have come to understand the world.
“It relies on what we learn in the classroom, as well as what we experience outside of it during those first few years after school.”
This same educational philosophy of academic depth and breadth, which underpins the Melbourne Model, has guided Trinity College Foundation Studies (TCFS) for many years.
Over the past 17 years, TCFS has provided a successful transition for more than 10,000 international students to the University of Melbourne and other major Australian universities.
Trinity believes true education aims to develop the whole person.
TCFS’ core curriculum is specifically designed to reflect the values of Trinity College and the University of Melbourne.
It also addresses the cultural and educational transformation faced by international students.
In developing the essential areas of competence, the core curriculum also supports teaching and learning in elective subjects.
TCFS is a rigorous academic programme taught by leading academics. The programme has been designed in conjunction with the University of Melbourne for high-achieving students wishing to study at universities in Australia.
