Powder Coating Line Upgrades Enhance Wood Finishing at BTD

February 28, 2013

BTD Wood Powder Coating specializes in powder coated MDF and is constantly seeking ways to further improve the quality of its wood finishing. Over the past year new hires, research and development, and plant upgrades have all played a part in enhancing their MDF finishes; this month, BTD announced successful completion of upgrades to the powder coating line.

Brainerd, MN (PRWEB) February 28, 2013

Powder coated MDF is a wood finishing process that involves sophisticated machinery at every step. CNC routers make precision cuts, automated sanders ensure a well-prepared board, and the powder coating line brings the finish to life. For manufacturers who focus on providing the best powder coated wood finish, it is important to make equipment upgrades whenever advancements are available. This month, BTD Wood Powder Coating announced the completion of several scheduled powder coating line upgrades.

The recent upgrades specifically involved the existing preheat vestibule and conveyor system, as well as a newly installed cure vestibule. In an MDF powder coating line, vestibules serve the purpose of retaining heat as the parts are brought up to, or maintained at, a specific temperature necessary for the process. BTD enlarged and reshaped the preheat vestibule, while adding an entirely new cure vestibule.

Craig Fast, BTD´s Vice President of Operations, elaborated on the vestibules. “The enlargements and additions serve the purpose of creating more space under heat. This will allow us to improve the efficiency of the process while controlling the temperature of the parts more closely. We anticipate increased finish smoothness and consistency, decreased outgassing, and higher production yields.” Further, the conveyor enhancements will boost system reliability, decreasing downtime.

Over the past 12 months, BTD has spent nearly $400,000 upgrading the MDF powder coating line alone. Generally, these upgrades are meant to further improve smoothness, consistency, efficiency, and other aspects of general finish quality. In addition, over the course of the past year the company has made many other plant upgrades, strategic hires, and R&D investments; the investments are intended to push the envelope with MDF finishes not seen before in the market.
