Advanced Cabinet Systems Continues Educational Program
ACS continues their myShop Student Outreach program into the 2013-14 school year.
Marion, IN (PRWEB) August 30, 2013
In an effort to educate students about manufacturing in the woodworking industry, Advanced Cabinet Systems (ACS) developed myShop, an educational program for high school students. myShop is a part of the Architectural Woodwork Institute’s (AWI) Adopt-A-Shop program. For more information about Adopt-A-Shop, visit the AWI website at http://www.awinet.org. Originally developed in 2012, myShop began its second year with the start of the 2013-14 school year.
The program has been geared towards career development. “We recently hosted a myShop day with our first group of students for the 2013-14 school year. We were very pleased with the enthusiasm of the students and their teacher,” says Marc Dunker, Creative Director—ACS.
myShop was developed in part due to many schools in Indiana discontinuing industrial arts programs such as woodshop. “Without classes such as woodshop, many students will graduate never being exposed to the woodworking industry whatsoever,” Dunker continues, “The students we’ve worked with have shown high interest in our program. They have learned a great deal about how products are manufactured and how businesses are really run. Several students have commented that our products and processes were more complex than what they thought. We hope the students will take what they learned at myShop and apply it to their career development.”
Predicting myShop will have an impact on the future workforce, ACS urges other businesses in all industries to get involved with the common goal of preparing students for life after school by developing interests that lead to careers.
ACS plans to further develop the program and reach out to more local schools in the area. To find out more about Advanced Cabinet Systems or their myShop program, click here to visit the myShop page on their website or visit http://www.advancedcabinetsystems.com.
