Company Supports Healthy Lifestyles Through Products, Programs, and Partnerships

Chattanooga TN (PRWEB) November 05, 2013

PlayCore encourages healthy behavior in people through the creation of products and best practice programs that promote the increase of active lifestyles and help to build communities through play. With November being American Diabetes Month, the company is encouraging all people to take the time to recognize the symptoms of diabetes, assess their own risk factors, and focus on healthy lifestyles that help prevent diabetes.

Raising awareness of this ever-growing disease is one of the main efforts behind the mission of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). American Diabetes Month is an important element in their effort, with programs designed to focus the nation's attention on the issues surrounding diabetes and the many people who are impacted by the disease. The ADA reports that nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes, and another 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes.

They estimate that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $245 billion. Diabetes is a debilitating disease and decreases both quality and quantity of life. In the past 20 years, deaths due to diabetes have increased by 45 percent.

Diabetes can go undiagnosed due to slow progression and lack of symptom awareness. Symptoms may be subtle and commonly confused with the "wear and tear" of everyday life. Approximately 1/3 of individuals with type-2 diabetes experience no symptoms and may go undiagnosed for years. Individuals with pre-diabetes have a 50 percent increased risk for heart disease and stroke but healthy lifestyle changes can drastically reduce risk through healthy eating, realistic portion sizes, and increased physical activity.

Evaluating your personal risk for diabetes and assessing symptoms is important. Remember, early detection leads to early treatment and decreased complications. PlayCore applauds the American Diabetes Association for declaring November American Diabetes Month, and encourages everyone to take steps to understand and help reverse this debilitating disease. PlayCore will be sharing healthy activities and tips all month on their Facebook page, and encourage individuals and families to contribute by going to http://www.facebook.com/playcorenews.
