PreK-12 Learning Group Announces Researcher Vicky Rideout as Speaker at Its Upcoming Annual Meeting
The PreK-12 Learning Group of the Association of American Publishers is pleased to announce Vicky Rideout as a featured speaker at Content in Context (CIC). Ms. Rideout is a widely published researcher on children, families and media and will present a session titled “Children and the Media Revolution” on June 3 in Washington, DC.

The PreK-12 Learning Group of the AAP is pleased to announce Vicky Rideout from VJR Consulting as a featured speaker at its upcoming annual meeting Content in Context (CIC). Ms. Rideout is a leading researcher and consultant whose studies on the effect of media on children’s academic and social development have been widely published. She has also led numerous, high-profile advocacy efforts in support of children’s health and safety.
Her presentation, “Children and the Media Revolution” on June 3 will review the latest information on children’s technology use and explore the issues confronting our industry in this time of unprecedented change.
Scott Traylor, founder and chief creative officer of 360KID and executive committee member for the PreK-12 Learning Group, regularly turns to Ms. Rideout’s findings as a source of business insight. “Her research helps product developers know which trends to be on the lookout for, and which platforms are in decline. That includes mobile, tablet, gaming systems, magazines, and print,” said Mr. Traylor. “Following Vicky's work gives product developers and media producers insight into how users' – from ages infant to eighteen – engage with different media platforms.”

About Vicky Rideout
Vicky Rideout, M.A., is president of VJR Consulting. The firm conducts research about children, media and families, and coordinates and evaluates public interest media campaigns. Ms. Rideout is also the editor for reviews and commentaries at the Journal of Children and Media. From 1997-2010, she was director of the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Program for the Study of Media and Health. Prior to that, she founded and ran the Children & Media program at the children’s advocacy group Children Now.
She has directed numerous studies about media use among children and teens, including studies on educational media use, teens and digital health information, and parenting in the age of digital technology. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Health Affairs and Pediatrics. She has also established and run several high-profile public interest campaigns with media partners such as the television networks USA, MTV, and BET, which have been recognized with national Emmy Awards and numerous other honors. Most recently, VJR Consulting worked with a national coalition of advocacy groups to develop and implement the “NO MORE” campaign to end domestic violence and sexual assault.
Prior to her work on children and media, Ms. Rideout spent a decade working in government and politics, including as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill, and a speechwriter and policy adviser to numerous officeholders and candidates.
