NEW YORK, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As schools face increasingly tight budgets, finding high-quality educational materials at an affordable price is critical to school success. More than 4,200 Texas elementary schools, which serve over 2.2 million students, now have the opportunity to use an award-winning online instructional resource that offers high-interest curriculum lessons while staying within their budgets. Texas Education Service Center (ESC) Region XI has partnered with Pokemon USA, Inc., to offer Pokemon Learning League, the online suite of animated, interactive lessons in language arts, math, science, and life skills for grades 3-6, to schools and districts in all 20 regions in Texas at preferred subscription rates.
Guided by an advisory board of experienced educators and education experts, Pokemon Learning League leverages sound educational practices and Pokemon's sustained popularity with children to help teach core curriculum topics in a uniquely appealing manner. Comprised of a narrative tutorial (Watch), guided practice (Try) and an interactive challenge (Apply), each lesson delivers a supportive and scaffolded learning environment for students. The program enables teachers to supplement curriculum content with interactive, motivational online activities and to measure and document student achievement using the provided assessment tools. In addition, teachers can search for lessons that meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards and assign lessons based on students' individual needs.
"Today's students are accustomed to using the Internet to create, collaborate and communicate. To meet their expectations and engage them in the way they prefer to learn, schools need to provide students with access to a digital learning environment," said Dr. Randal Douglas, director of the Department of Educational Technology of ESC Region XI. "Pokemon Learning League is very appealing to students and meets the needs of educators for research-based, standards-driven content and for a means to continually assess student progress."
"Texas schools are exemplary in the use of instructional technology to improve student learning," said Yves Saada, vice president of interactive media for Pokemon USA. "Region XI's decision to offer Pokemon Learning League to its members and schools throughout Texas illustrates that our pedagogical approach is a great fit with the best school systems in the country."
Pokemon Learning League was selected through a RFP (competitive bid) process by the Department of Educational Technology of ESC Region XI. Preferred pricing on Pokemon Learning League is extended to schools and districts across the state of Texas through the Texas Educational Technology Purchasing Consortium (TETPC), a statewide purchasing cooperative that all schools can participate in at no cost. The Consortium saves districts time, money and paperwork by providing a single source for the review and selection of high-quality resources, volume discount pricing, and one purchasing agreement instead of contracts with multiple vendors.
Based in Fort Worth, Texas, ESC Region XI provides information, services, staff development, and support to 77 public school districts and 22 charter schools in a 10-county area of north central Texas. The Region XI area includes over 53,000 educators and more than 499,000 students. The Department of Educational Technology supports improved academic achievement by providing services such as professional development and instructional resources to its members as well as negotiating special pricing for online subscription-based resources.
