Posted on: Tuesday, 13 November 2007, 18:00 CST

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS), ARAMARK Education, and Voyager Expanded Learning are pleased to announce that Elizabeth Reilinger, Ph.D., chairperson of the Boston School Committee, is the recipient of the 2007 Richard R. Green Award, the nation's highest honor for urban education leadership. Dr. Reilinger, one of six nominees, received the award at the 51st Annual Fall Conference of CGCS in Nashville, Tennessee (October 31 - November 4, 2007).

Dr. Reilinger received the Green Award from the Council of the Great City Schools, a coalition of the nation's largest urban public school systems; ARAMARK Education, a professional services company that provides complete range of food, facility, uniform services; and Voyager Expanded Learning, a company that provides reading and math programs. Dr. Reilinger was presented with a $10,000 college scholarship to present to a high school senior of her choice in the Boston Public Schools or from her high school alma mater.

Dr. Reilinger was first appointed to the school committee in 1994, and she has been elected chairperson of the Boston School Committee every year since 1998. Her leadership for the Boston schools and children has helped in the reform and improvement of the school district.

"ARAMARK is proud and honored to continue our support of the Richard R. Green Award and the Council of the Great City Schools," said Dennis Maple, President, ARAMARK Education. "We congratulate Dr. Reilinger and all of the nominees for their dedication and commitment to our youth and for the great strides they continue to make in education."

"Voyager Expanded Learning is thrilled to partner with ARAMARK and the Council of Great City Schools in recognizing Dr. Reilinger and all the committed and extraordinary leaders of America's urban schools," said Carolyn Getridge, Senior Vice President of Urban Initiatives for Voyager.

The Richard R. Green Award in Urban Excellence is bestowed upon a past or present member district superintendent or Board of Education member in recognition of exceptional contributions to urban schools and students. Considered the nation's highest urban education honor, the award pays tribute to the memory of Richard R. Green, former Minneapolis and New York City Public Schools superintendent, who won distinction as an outstanding educator and leader.
