Pupils at one school were jumping for joy when they heard their playground is set to get a pounds 7,000 face lift.

The transformation of the playground at Bishop Childs Church in Wales School, St Mellons, Cardiff, is part of NatWest Supergrounds, a pounds 6m, six-year community investment initiative that allows employees to nominate local schools for an award.

Bishop Childs Church in Wales School became involved with the scheme through Sarah Thompson, from the local NatWest branch at Splott, a parent and PTA member at the school.

Gillian Ellis, headteacher at the school, said: “School playgrounds are one of the few safe outdoor spaces available to children. Ours are already drawing plans.”
