District 49 Searching for New Superintendent
By SHARI CHANEY GRIFFIN
Falcon School District 49 has begun the search for a new superintendent.
Nancy Wright has served as the interim leader of the fastgrowing school district in northeast Colorado Springs and Falcon for more than a year.
She was hired in August 2006, replacing Steve Hull, who resigned over differences with the school board. Hull was paid $290,000 when he left.
Wright provided the district with stability and time to figure out what the district and board needed, said Dave Martin, board vice president.
Now the search is on for a permanent superintendent.
The board is working with Woodmoor Group, an executive search firm in Monument.
The search for a superintendent is in the early stages, said Bob VanCleave, Woodmoor Group vice president.
An ad has been posted on the Colorado Association of School Executives Web site and will be there into January, VanCleave said.
District employees and community members also will have a chance to talk about what they want in a superintendent, he said, including attributes they’ve admired and those they haven’t.
While people nationwide can access the CASE Web site and apply, hiring someone who knows the area or has a connection to the district can be beneficial, VanCleave said.
Hull was from Oregon; Wright was formerly the superintendent in Manitou Springs School District 14 and also had worked in other Colorado school districts.
Martin said the board wants to have a large pool of applicants to choose from. He said he anticipates having someone selected by the end of May, beginning work in June or July.
