Hand Takes Job As Librarian With Camp’s Hobbs Campus
SUFFOLK
Troy Hand, former library media specialist at King’s Fork Middle School, was recently hired as librarian at Paul D. Camp Community College’s Hobbs Suffolk campus.
Hand also was a sixth- and seventh-grade English teacher for the Southampton County School system.
“This was a natural transition for me because of my love for reading and experience working one-on-one with students,” said Hand, whose love of medieval and fantasy is reflected in the decor of his office.
Hand has a bachelor’s degree in English/Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a master’s degree in School Library Media from Longwood University.
While at the Southampton County School system, he was chairman of the accelerated reader committee, chairman of fundraising and special events for the peer mentor program and member of the school improvement team.
At Paul D. Camp, he said he prides himself in teaching students how to identify unreliable Web sites.
The library, called the Paul D. Camp Learning Resource Center, is open to the public.
In addition to his school activities, Hand is a member of the international Society of Creative Anachronism, which is dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe.
