HEAD TEACHER Claire Walsh chose St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School because it’s a friendly place to work.

Miss Walsh joined the school 11 years ago after working as deputy head at St John Fisher Catholic Primary School in Kineton Road, Wyken.

Miss Walsh grew up in Leamington. She moved to London to train as a teacher and began her career at schools in Feltham, Walthamstow and Hendon areas of the city.

She said: “When I visited the school I thought it seemed a very friendly community. It’s also a fairly large school and I was used to teaching in large schools in London.”

Since Miss Walsh has joined, there are more themed days, an annual fundraising drive during Lent and more chance for pupils to sing both in the choir and in lessons.

She said: “We have a lot of curriculum days such as arts day and history day. The children come off timetable and spend a day on one theme. The children love them and it provides them with the opportunity to learn independently, explore creative ideasand follow their own interests.

“We’re very proud of the choir and singing generally in the school and we have some very good plays.”

Each year in Lent, the school chooses and local and national charity and has a term of fundraising events.
