Evergreen Public Schools has set new elementary school enrollment borders to make room for a new grade school that opens in September off Northeast 28th Street.

Now, work shifts to find a name for the building.

The district has asked for suggestions from the public, due by next Friday.

District policy says the name should reflect an interesting story of the area, something historically significant or representative of the area, or should honor an important person.

Suggestions may be sent to communityrelations@egreen.wednet.edu or mailed to Evergreen Public Schools’ Community Relations Department, P.O. Box 8910, Vancouver, 986668-8910.

This week, the Evergreen school board adopted border changes that alter six current school zones.

About 800 students will be affected. Sunset, Orchards, Image, Burton, Fircrest and Hearthwood school borders are revised under the plan, which may be viewed at: www.evergreenps.org/Schools/Boundary/ proposal.pdf .

The new school is part of the Four Seasons development that is rising near Northeast 119th. It’s the last building covered by the $167.9 million bond measure approved by Evergreen voters in May 2002.

Evergreen is readying a new, major school construction and renovation bond measure for this year’s May ballot.
