Alternative School Invites Former Students to ‘Come Home to Humanex’ for 25th Anniversary
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Humanex Academy, a private, alternative middle and high school that provides a structured and supportive environment for students with a wide variety of learning and emotional needs, is inviting all former students and their families to “Come Home to Humanex” to help celebrate the school’s 25th anniversary.
Humanex, founded in 1983, has been serving students with alternative needs in the Denver area by providing individualized education, combined with extensive counseling support. The only program of its kind in the Denver area, Humanex works with students who have learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and many other unique needs. The school’s three primary elements are an academic curriculum that accommodates each student’s current abilities, extensive counseling support, and the Love and Logic approach to behavior management. Love and Logic is a philosophy that provides simple and practical techniques to help teachers and parents have less stress and more fun while raising responsible children.
“We’re inviting all our graduates, former students and their families to come home to Humanex,” Tracy Wagers, director, said. “The celebration of our 25th anniversary is really a celebration of our students and their successes.” Humanex is planning several events to celebrate the 25th anniversary:
— A Love and Logic parenting seminar presented by Love and Logic co-founder Jim Fay on April 24, at 6:00 pm on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver; — An open house at the school, which is at 2700 S. Zuni St. in Englewood, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3; and — A barbecue for alumni at the school Sunday, May 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“We’ll update our anniversary plans periodically and we want to make sure we can share the good news with everyone in the Humanex family,” Wagers said.
Humanex was founded by educators Cheryl Okizaki and her husband, Gary Okizaki, to meet the needs of parents who wanted teachers who valued students’ abilities and provided support for their disabilities. They started the school based on the philosophy that children learn best when they feel respected and have control over their education.
“Many students who would otherwise have dropped out of school graduated from Humanex and attended college,” Cheryl Okizaki said.
