Teacher Recorded Calling Children 'Stupid'

A Texas school district is investigating allegations that an elementary school teacher repeatedly called her 4- and 5-year-old pupils stupid.
The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday that the teacher's comments were captured on a tape recorder a student's mother had placed in her daughter's backpack.
If it's true, it's a serious breach of a teacher's responsibility to children, and it will be dealt with swiftly and surely, Houston Independent School District spokesman Terry Abbott was quoted by the newspaper as saying.
Principal Art Castillo said the pre-kindergarten teacher was removed from her classroom and reassigned to an administrative job.
There were comments on the tape, allegedly made by the teacher, that were reprehensible and totally unacceptable, he said.
Abbott said the unidentified teacher, first hired by the district in 1977, was suspended for one day without pay in December on evidence that she had slapped a pupil.

True she shouldn't have said what she said, she lost it, but have you ever taught 4 year olds? This is the most difficult grade to teach. We've had several teachers walk out of PK classes. These students go to school with all kinds of emotional problems but the teacher is supposed to handle all 22 of them by herself.I challenge anyone to try and teach this grade. I understand all students, even PK students with behavior problems will now be tracked. This is to document student behavior! The mother who recorded the teacher had problems with her child at home(why didn't she talk about that), by the way so did the other teachers that taught her. |
