Kindergarten registration day in Chesterfield County will be April 17. This year, 12 schools that have pre-kindergarten classes also will accept registrations for Head Start and preschool.

To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old by Sept. 30. Parents should take a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of county residency to the elementary school that the child will attend.

To enroll in pre-kindergarten classes, a child must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 30, live in the school zone where the program is being held and meet eligibility requirements.

Preschool classes for children who will be 4 by Sept. 30 are offered at Bellwood, Bensley, Beulah, Chalkley, Davis, Ettrick, Falling Creek, Harrowgate, Providence and Reams Road elementary schools. Children must show an educational need to enroll. Preschool classes are expected to be filled by May 1.

Head Start classes for children who will be 3 or 4 by Sept. 30 are offered at Bellwood, Bensley, Chalkley, Ettrick, Falling Creek, Harrowgate, Hopkins and Marguerite Christian elementary schools. Children must meet federal income guidelines.

Head Start children also may enroll by appointment at the Head Start office, (804) 743-3699, from now until classes are filled. Head Start classes are expected to be filled by June.
