Carnegie Learning, Inc., publisher of research-based math curricula for middle schools, high schools, and the higher education market, announced today that Whitley County School System in southeast Kentucky is adopting Carnegie Learning’s Bridge to Algebra and Geometry programs to help improve math scores and graduation rates in the county. The $95 thousand purchase of Bridge to Algebra and Geometry software, textbooks, and Professional Development services was made with Federal Title I funds.

Some Whitley County students are already using Carnegie Learning’s Algebra I program as part of a nationwide algebra study, conducted by the RAND Corporation and funded by the U.S. Department of Education, assessing the effectiveness of Carnegie Learning’s Algebra I programs.

“Whitley County is making this purchase following a positive experience participating in the RAND study which includes the implementation and comparison of Carnegie Learning’s Algebra I program and our existing curriculum,” said Paula Trickett, Director of District-Wide Programs, Whitley County School System. “We saw a new level of student and teacher energy and enthusiasm for the learning process using Carnegie Learning’s blended software, textbook, and classroom approach, and we look forward to bringing this positive experience to our algebra readiness and Geometry students across the county.”

Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor® curriculum implementation includes an intelligent software program that provides differentiated instruction by adapting the learning path to each student’s understanding of mathematical concepts, along with textbooks, classroom instruction, and ongoing Professional Development for teachers and administrators. Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor research is well supported in the Learning Processes subcommittee report of the recent National Math Advisory Panel report to the President and U.S. Secretary of Education, and is cited as an example of a curriculum that has strong evidence of effectiveness and is a model for applying basic research in the classroom.

Carnegie Learning’s Cognitive Tutor software is compatible with both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
