April 29, 2008
Repost This

Nearly all public school teachers in New Jersey have a college degree. Fewer than half had a master’s degree or doctorate during the 2006-07 school year, but teachers in North Jersey are more likely than their peers across the state to have post-graduate degrees. Percentages of teachers with post-graduate degrees:

County, 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07

Bergen, 56%, 57%, 58%

Morris, 47%, 49%, 49%

Passaic, 41%, 43%, 45%

Hudson, 39%, 41%, 43%

State, 41%, 42%, 43%

Beyond the numbers

* Among all counties statewide, Bergen County has the highest proportion of teachers with a post-graduate degree.

* One of every two teachers in North Jersey has a post-graduate degree.

* According to the latest census data available, nearly one of every seven people in North Jersey ages 25 and up has a master’s, doctoral or professional degree.
