More than 100 adult education students from Chapman University College's Roseville Campus received a unique opportunity to meet with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and other state leaders on Tuesday, April 22 as part of their "Governing the Golden State" class.
During the meeting at the State Capitol Building, students from Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia's Chapman University College class had an opportunity to meet with state officials and ask them questions related to the future of public education and the need for teachers; the affordability of housing; the importance of college degree; and the environment.
"Chapman University College is fortunate to have instructors like Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia who can provide our students with unique learning opportunities such as meeting with the state leaders at the capitol," said Gary Brahm, Chancellor of Chapman University College. "The mission of Chapman University College is to provide our students with a quality education that incorporates real-world learning with the classroom."
Other state leaders who met with the students included Rosario Marin, California Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency; Lynn L. Jacobs, Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development; Assemblyman Paul Cook; Assemblyman Michael Villines, the Assembly Republican Leader; Susan Kennedy, the Governor's Chief of Staff; and Dan Dunmoyer, Cabinet Secretary.
Discussing the importance of students who live busy lives to continue to pursue their degrees and credentials, Assemblywoman Garcia said, "If you obtain your degree, you put the pencil in your own hand to write your future."
Governor Schwarzenegger added that we should all be life long learners and the State Capitol building is the greatest classroom one can be in.
In the spring of 2002 Schwarzenegger received an honorary degree from Chapman University College in recognition of his work on behalf of Special Olympics, youth and fitness.
