Ambassador to Speak at Graduation

HERTFORD COUNTY | Chowan University will hold its commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday on the Campus Green.

James P. Cain, ambassador to the kingdom of Denmark, will be guest speaker.

After a career in law, business and sports in North Carolina, Cain was nominated by President Bush on June 30, 2005, to serve as ambassador. After confirmation by the U.S. Senate, Cain arrived in Denmark on Aug. 14, 2005.

Bertie County

Student transfer requests are due

All student transfer requests for the 2008-09 school year must be submitted this month.

Forms can be picked up at any Bertie County school or the central office or downloaded at www.bertie.k12.nc.us.

Tuition is required for all students transferring into Bertie County Schools who reside outside the district.

Chowan County

reception for art show to be held

The John A. Holmes High School Senior Art Show will hold its opening reception at 5 p.m. next Friday at the Chowan Arts Council Gallery.

The show, by honors art students, will continue through June 1.

Dare County

Seventh-graders tapped to take SAT

Duke University sponsors a talent search in which eligible seventh-grade students are invited to take the SAT.

Four First Flight Middle School students - Case Aldridge, Katelynn Pullen, Jarrett Davis and Katherine Ross - received state recognition by scoring a 510 or higher on at least one part of the SAT.

The students are invited to attend a ceremony at one of four colleges in the state.

Hertford County

chowan University to hold mock drill

Chowan University has announced a mock drill for the campus on Thursday.

The university will work with local law enforcement and emergency services . The drill will test the university and the local agencies on their ability to communicate and respond to a crisis.

Pasquotank County

Kindergarten registration is set

Kindergarten registration will be held at Northside Elementary School from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Students must be 5 years old by Oct. 16 .

coa commencement set for Thursday

College of The Albemarle will hold its spring commencement ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the COA Auditorium.

The keynote speaker will be Misty Lynn Ward, a COA associate's- degree nursing graduate.

Superintendent to host meeting

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools Superintendent Tony Stewart will hold a community meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pasquotank Elementary School multi purpose room, at 1407 Peartree Road.

Parents, business leaders and community members are invited to attend. Tips will be offered for parents to help children with important test-taking skills.

Perquimans County

Employees of the month named

Perquimans County Schools selected two top employees for the month of April.

Robert Banks serves Hertford Grammar School as a custodian and bus driver . He has been serving Perquimans for the past 10 years.

Also recognized was Karen Eaves, a member of the Perquimans County High School staff. In addition to her duties as the SIMS data manager, she has played a role in the transition to NC WISE for the school and the system. She is in her seventh year with the school system.
