Education Secretary Concludes Scandinavian Visit

According to news.gov.hk: Secretary for Education Michael Suen has finished his visit to Finland and Norwayto observe the operation of their education systems. Mr Suen today visited the Ronningen Folk High School, the only folk high school in Oslo. The school is a one- year boarding school supplementing the regular education system in Norwayby nurturing "the whole person". It offers a variety of courses in art, handicrafts, media and music. Healso visited an upper secondary school which offered courses on both academic subjects and vocational training in electricity and electronics, art and design, and media and communication. Mr Suen met with Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Education, Research & Church Affairs of the Storting, the Norwegian Parliament. They exchanged views on challenges in enhancing the education systems on both sides. He then visited the Department of Education& Training of the Ministry of Education& Research and wasbriefed on the Norwegian kindergarten sector and school system. He also called on the Chinese Ambassador to Norway, Madam Gao Jian, and attended a dinner hosted by her.
