A NORTH Yorkshire preparatory school has joined an elite group of 600 schools across the world to be awarded a quality kitemark.
Belmont Grosvenor School at Birstwith, near Harrogate, has been recognised for its commitment to all-round excellence in education by the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS).
The school has undergone rigorous inspections to win accreditation to the IAPS, a professional association dedicated to ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning.
Headteacher Jane Merriman said: "I am absolutely delighted that the school has been accepted to join this prestigious group of nationally acclaimed prep schools.
"We look forward to the added benefits it will bring to the school."
As well as offering advice on educational matters, staff training and additional learning opportunities for pupils, membership of the IAPS promotes Belmont Grosvenor School within the independent sector.
The IAPS recognises that, although each school has its own ethos, all its members are committed to the pursuit of an excellent, well- rounded education - valuing academic success and the personal development of each child.
Yorkshire businessman Paul Sykes recently bought Swarcliffe Hall, where the school is based in Nidderdale, to release money to allow the governors to make future investment in its facilities.
Belmont Grosvenor School, formed by the merger of two Harrogate schools, Belmont Birklands and Grosvenor House School, celebrates its centenary this year.
Events planned to mark the milestone include inviting former pupils back for a hog roast and sports challenge on Sunday, June 29 between 1 and 4pm. Former pupils interested in the event should contact the school on 01423 771029.
The IAPS was founded in 1892 by a group of preparatory school headteachers. The association, for heads and deputy heads of independent preparatory schools, has members across the world, including Africa, America and Australia.
