BRIDGEPORT -- The University of Bridgeport is one of the fastest- growing universities in New England due to its thriving academic programs, generous scholarship opportunities, exceptional faculty and comprehensive campus improvements. In fall 2007, UB had an 18 percent jump in enrollment, leading all other colleges and universities in Connecticut. Graduate enrollment was up 29 percent, fueled by growth in its graduate business and engineering programs. And the university's adult and continuing education division saw an increase in enrollment of more than 20 percent.
UB offers more than 125 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, including a new graduate program for global development and world peace.
The wide and varied curriculum prepares students for careers in business, engineering, computer science, education, public service, music, design and fashion, as well a number of health care disciplines, including dental hygiene, nutrition, chiropractic, naturopathic medicine and acupuncture.
Small class sizes allow professors to get to know students and provide the personal attention that fosters a rich learning experience.
UB offers internship and co-op opportunities with numerous organizations, including Apple, Bloomingdales, ESPN, the FBI, GE, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Rolls Royce, UBS and the United Nations.
Also, UB's Career Services provides a full spectrum of assistance to students about to enter the job market -- from identifying opportunities to polishing resumes and interview skills.
The university is known for its leadership and innovation. Its library is one of the first in the world with the online ExLibris system, and it pioneered the first online graduate degree program in the state. It is also the first American institution of higher learning to offer a multidisciplinary undergraduate degree program in martial arts studies.
A one-of-a-kind soccer field recently opened to enhance the school's athletic programs.
UB recently launched a program of capital improvements, made possible by a $21.2 million tax-exempt bond financing issue.
Already completed is a high-tech building for the Fones School of Dental Hygiene, equipped with the latest in digital technology, ergonomic work stations and "smart" classrooms. The upcoming restoration of the Arnold Bernhard Art Center will transform this landmark building into a high-tech visual and performing arts facility.
