Springboro's Hook Finalist for Milford Schools Job

By Lawrence Budd Staff Writer

SPRINGBORO -- Larry Hook, assistant superintendent of the Springboro Community Local Schools, is a finalist for the top job with the public school district in Milford, a Cincinnati suburb where he worked before coming to Springboro.

Hook is one of five applicants to be interviewed this week by the school board in the community along the Hamilton-Clermont county line.

Robert Farrell, interim superintendent in Milford, retired superintendent from Fairfield City Schools, is among five finalists culled from 22 applicants.

The others are Valerie Browning, superintendent, Greeneview Local Schools; Bob Humble, assistant superintendent, Clermont Northeastern Schools; and Aaron Mackey, superintendent of the Princeton City Schools.

Hook came to Springboro six years ago after 12 years as a teacher, coach and principal in the Milford district.

Last week, he said Milford was one of a handful of Ohio districts he would consider moving to as superintendent -- with reservations.

"I love Springboro," he said. "I'm working today, tomorrow, every day like this is where I will be."

Hook recently completed management of the process culminating in adoption of a long-range plan for the Springboro district.

He manages existing personnel and negotiates with employee unions, as well overseeing the athletic, technology and special education in Springboro.

"To become a superintendent at a public school where my leadership skills can be utilized to ensure high student and district achievement," is the objective listed on his resume.

The Milford board is expected to hold second interviews at the end of May before making a decision.
