May 21--Students who attend the Monongalia County Technical Education Center filled up the center's electrical technology classroom Tuesday for the school's annual Awards Day.

Awards were presented to students who are involved in the Technical Honor Society, as well as to students who had perfect attendance throughout the school year.

Vocational clubs, such as Health Occupations Students of America and SkillsUSA, were also recognized.

Cynthia Zawojski, the school's computer systems instructor and the event's organizer, said there are about 137 students who will be graduating from MTEC this month.

About 200 people were present for the Awards Day ceremony, Zawojski said, including other MTEC students, their parents and additional visitors.

Zawojski said the faculty and students at MTEC also took time to recognize community members who have assisted the students or the school.

Local Chef Joe Campbell, Charles Harrington of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Dr. Clarence Harvey Jr. from the Monongalia County Board of Education, Amy P. Everett D.D.S., Chief Deputy Al Kisner from the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department, Sandra Panrell from WVU Hospitals and Don Reinke from the Monongalia County Development Authority were the contributing community members.

"They've all helped us out in some way in the past year, and we wanted to thank them for that," Zawojski said.

Zawojski said the students rehearsed for their graduation after the awards ceremony concluded.

The MTEC graduation will be held at 7 p.m. on May 28 at the WVU Coliseum.
