Wales News Bulletin: Head Quits After School Protest
Posted on: Wednesday, 21 May 2008, 18:00 CDT
A HEAD TEACHER has resigned from a secondary school which had been classed as failing until six weeks ago.
Ali Stevens has left Pontllanfraith Comprehensive, in Caerphilly, where pupils walked out a month ago in protest over proposed teacher redundancies.
Officials last night said Ms Stevens left the 800-pupil school and wants to start an outdoor education business.
Caerphilly Council said an acting head would now be appointed.
The school was put into "special measures" last year after inspectors said it failed to reach standards.
In April, about 150 pupils blocked the road outside the school near Blackwood over the redundancy fears. Three were arrested.
