Rockingham Schools Get New Principals, Assistants
By The Reidsville Review, N.C.
Jun. 17--The Rockingham County school board approved new principals and assistant principals for the 2008-09 academic school year at its meeting Monday evening. Retirements and vacancies created openings at nine schools in the Rockingham County district.
Jacey Bell, principal of Moss Street Elementary School, is retiring. Vicki McKinney, current assistant principal at Holmes Middle School, will replace Bell. Nicole Lancaster, currently a Communities in Schools coordinator at Reidsville High School, will take McKinney's place at Holmes.
Louise Uziel, former principal of Reidsville Middle School, will be the new Rockingham Early College High School principal. Charles Perkins, current principal at Williamsburg Elementary School, will fill the vacancy at Reidsville Middle. Erselle Young, an assistant principal at Rockingham County Middle School, will be the new principal at Williamsburg Elementary.
Joyce Smith, the current assistant principal at Moss Street Elementary, will become assistant principal at Rockingham Middle.
The board also reviewed 2007-08 test results. Lewis R. Johnson, director of testing and research, presented the results to the board.
"This is really astounding, powerful results," said Johnson. Rockingham County schools achieved across-the-board increases in test scores from the 2006-07 school year to the 2007-08 school year. Lawsonville Elementary had the most dramatic gains, followed closely by Central Elementary and Stoneville Elementary.
