Smiths Area Schools to Hold New Student Registration

By Opelika-Auburn News, Ala.

Jul. 8--The Smiths area schools will hold new student registration July 23 and July 24 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST at Smiths Station Primary School, Smiths Station Elementary School, Smiths Station Intermediate School, Wacoochee Junior High School and Smiths Station High School, according to a report from the Lee County School System.

Enrollment requirements for the Lee County School System include the student's birth certificate and social security card, an up-to-date Alabama Immunization Form and a copy of a parent or guardian's driver's license.

If the student does not live with his or her parents, or if the student's parents are divorced, then the school systems requests a court decree declaring guardianship to the person registering the student.

Also, the parent or legal guardian must provide the school with two of the following proofs of residency: An apartment or home lease agreement, a home purchase agreement (house notes), a utility bill or a property tax record.

All proofs must show the Lee Road address and the parent or guardian's name.

If the parent or legal guardian registering the student resides in someone else's home, a notarized resident affidavit must be presented along with their two proofs of residency.

Affidavits are available in the school office. A representative of the Lee County Board of Education will verify the affidavit by visiting the residence, the report said.

Parents or legal guardians should bring address information, telephone number and fax number of the previous schools attended. Parents or legal guardians should also bring the withdrawal form and last report card received.

Make sure to withdraw the student from their previous school.
