Call to Save City School

July 10, 2008

PARENTS and children are demanding plans to shut a city secondary school be scrapped.

They staged a noisy demonstration outside Liverpool town hall yesterday in support of closure threatened Croxteth comprehensive.

The school’s headteacher Richard Baker and campaigner Nicky Madden then addressed a council meeting calling for a new solution.

Mixed-sex Croxteth comprehensive is set to close in 2010 with a new all-boys’ academy being opened on the site of boys’ school De La Salle college in 2012.

Girls’ school St John Bosco college would also be refurbished under plans which Liverpool council insists will tackle falling pupil numbers in the Croxteth area.
