Registration Dates Set for City, County Schools

City and county public school districts have announced registration schedules for the 2008-09 school year. The schedules are as follows:

Lauderdale County School District

Aug. 7 is the first day of school for Lauderdale County School District. The following is the schedule for new students who have not previously registered. Registration will be held from 8 a.m.-noon on each respective campus:

Wednesday-Friday

–Northeast Elementary, Grades K-4

–Northeast Middle School, Grades 5-8

–Southeast Middle School, Grades 5-8

–West Lauderdale Elementary, Grades K-4

July 23-25

–Clarkdale Attendance Center, Grades K-12

–Northeast Lauderdale High School, Grades 9-12

–Southeast Elementary, Grades K-4

–Southeast High School, Grades 9-12

–West Lauderdale School, Grades 5-12

Elementary, middle and high school students should bring the following documents/information:

–Birth certificate

–Mississippi immunization record

–Last report card from former school

–Mailing address of former school

All new students who live with their parents or guardian(s) will verify residency as follows.

Every student must provide at least three of the following items:

–Homestead Exemption application

–State of Mississippi Road and Privilege Tax

–Registration Receipt (vehicle tag receipt)

–Mortgage documents or property deed

–Apartment or home lease

–One utility bill

–Affidavit and/or personal visit by a designated school district official

–Any other documentation that will objectively and unequivocally establish that the parent or guardian resides within the school district; and, in the case of a student living with a legal guardian who is a bona fide resident of the school district.

–Certified copy of filed petition for guardianship if pending, and final decree when issued.

Other procedures apply to students who are homeless or who live with adults other than parents or legal guardians.

All new students who do not register during the designated times will not be allowed to register until Aug. 8.

All other students who were enrolled in a Lauderdale County school the previous year will receive their class schedules on the first day of school.

Meridian Public School District

Aug. 18 is the first day of school for Meridian Public School District. The following dates are set for registration. Parents must accompany students to registration. All students new to MPS must have a Mississippi Immunization Compliance Form, birth certificate, Social Security card and proof of residence form to register.

Elementary, Grades K-5

July 28, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. This is the only registration date and is for students who will be in kindergarten, new students and those who failed to pre-register. Registration will be held at each school.

Middle Schools

Registration will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Carver and Magnolia Middle Schools on the following dates:

–Sixth grade — July 29

–Seventh grade — July 30

–New students — July 31

Junior High Schools

Registration will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Kate Griffin and Northwest Junior High Schools on the following dates:

–Eighth grade — July 29

–Ninth grade — July 30

–New students — July 31

Meridian High School

Registration will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Meridian High School Library on the following dates:

–Seniors — Aug. 4

–Juniors — Aug. 5

–Sophomores — Aug. 6

–New students — Aug. 7

Band students will register with their grade level.
