Waltonville in Talks With Superintendent Candidate
By Tesa Culli, Mt. Vernon Register-News, Ill.
Jul. 21–WALTONVILLE — The board of Waltonville Community Unit School District 1 is in negotiations with a possible superintendent candidate, according to board president Sandy Frick.
Frick said the district interviewed a candidate last week, and has been in negotiations with that person following the interview. If the negotiations don’t progress, Frick said the board will be looking for an interim superintendent for the 2008-2009 school year, which starts for students in August.
The position of superintendent was left vacant in June when Craig Kujawa decided to take the position of superintendent at Bethel Grade School, which was opened due to Matt Renaud taking the position of superintendent at Iuka Grade School. Since Kujawa’s resignation from Waltonville, the Waltonville Unit District has advertised for applications for the position, and held one round of interviews before offering the position to the current candidate. The board should know by today whether the candidate has accepted the position or further negotiations are in order, Frick said.
Waltonville Grade School Principal Shlonda Horton has been performing some of the interim duties and Regional Superintendent of Schools Bryan Cross has also stepped in as the board has worked to find a new superintendent.
