Champ Backed By MP
MP SHARON Hodgson has welcomed the creation of a communications champion to help children with special educational needs.
In a Commons speech the Gateshead East and Washington West MP described the Bercow Report into Speech, Language and Communication Needs as eminently sensible.
Its recommendations include the creation of a Communications Champion to lead a year of communication in order to raise awareness of the 40,000 children who start school with SLCN.
Mrs Hodgson, who passed a Bill this year to improve information on special educational needs, promised to help ensure the recommendations of the report become realities.
Speaking afterwards, she said: “Communication is crucial and this report establishes a coherent plan for the future.”
