New Teachers in Schley

Aug. 5—- — Schley County Elementary School has acquired nine new teachers for the 2008-2009 school year.
Time to meet them.
Mollie Burdwell Second Grade
Mollie Burdwell will be teaching second grade. Burdwell graduated from Columbus State University with honors this past spring. She lives in Marion County with her husband, Logan, who is employed with Buck Creek Plantation in Tazewell.
Burdwell says she is delighted to be a part of the SCE team.
Jill Cochran, First Grade
Jill Cochran was born and raised in Americus. She attended Georgia Southwestern State University and received her B.S. and masters in early childhood education. She completed a specialist degree in elementary education at Troy State University.
Currently, Cochran is finishing a library media degree from Georgia College and State University. She has been teaching for six years and will be starting her seventh year at Schley County Elementary in first grade.
Cochran and her husband, Cam have one daughter Camie who is 2. Jill Cochran enjoys spending time with her family, walking, and shopping.
Kathy Gill, Kindergarten
Kathy Gill has a bachelors degree in elementary education from University of Mobile. She is married to David Gill who is the Human Resource manager for Cooper Lighting and they have three children whose names are Kyle, James, and Shay-Leigh.
She is a member of Central Baptist Church in Americus. Gill says she is excited to be a part of Schley County’s magnificent school system.
Erin Howell, Third Grade
Erin Howell and her husband Daniel moved to Ellaville in September of last year. Daniel Howell is the owner of Howell’s Painting and Remodeling.
In 2005, she graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with a degree in early childhood education. She is currently working toward earning a master of education degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She is very excited about beginning her fourth year of teaching.
Nicole Janovsky, Fourth Grade
Nicole Janovsky is the new fourth grade teacher at Schley County Elementary school for the 2008-2009 school year. Over the summer her family relocated to Marion County from Polk County, Fla. Janovsky attended the University of South Florida specializing in elementary education and this will be her ninth year teaching.
Janovsky is looking forward to the start of a fantastic school year in Ellaville.
Diane Law, Third Grade
Diane Law graduated from Georgia Southern University with a bachelors degree in early childhood in 1992 and completed her masters degree in reading education in 2006. She and her family live in Americus.
Her husband Wade Law works with the Department of Natural Resources. They have two children ages 8 and 11.
Law is looking forward to teaching third grade at Schley County Elementary this year.
Julia Scoggins, Special Education
Julia Scoggins is a recent graduate of Columbus State University in Columbus, with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She will be teaching special education at Schley County Elementary.
Scoggins is originally from Lumpkin, but now resides in Webster County with her husband and three children: beautiful twin daughters, Gracie and Hannah, who are 4 and will begin Pre-K this year as well a very spirited son, Billy, who is 2. Her husband Rick, a native of Webster County, is employed at Georgia Feed in Cuthbert, as a maintenance mechanic.
Scoggins says that teaching has been a dream of hers since childhood, and she is extremely excited and honored to be part of the awesome team at Schley County Elementary School. Go Wildcats, she said.
Carrie Valentine, Music
Carrie Hayes Valentine is originally from Ellisville, Miss., but has been living in Buena Vista for the past two years. She is a graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss., holding bachelor’s degrees in both music education and vocal performance. She has enjoyed following her husband, Capt. Michael Valentine, in his Army career which took them from Fort Polk, La., to New York City, and finally to Fort Benning. Capt. Valentine just returned from a 14- month deployment to Iraq this past May. They have a 2-year-old daughter Isabella Rose.
Carrie Valentine also serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. Her hobbies include reading, remodeling old homes with her husband, and camping.
Valentine is thrilled to be joining the faculty of Schley County Elementary and has high hopes for the new music program, she said.
Jenni Wyrick, Kindergarten
Jenni Wyrick graduated from Columbus State University with a bachelors degree in early childhood education. She is originally from Rupert, and is a member of Sand Bethel Church in Rupert. She recently married Todd Wyrick and they live in Mauk. He is a Certified Technician for BMW of Columbus.
Wyrick is very enthusiastic about teaching Kindergarten at Schley County Elementary and becoming a part of the Schley County community, she said.
