Schools Open House in Glynn on Sunday Schedules Vary to Allow Parents to Meet All Their Children’s Teachers.
By TERESA STEPZINSKI
BRUNSWICK - All Glynn County public schools will conduct an open house Sunday in preparation for the resumption of classes on Wednesday.Staggered schedules will allow parents with children in different schools and grades the opportunity to meet all their teachers, said Jim Weidhaas, spokesman for the Glynn County school system.
The district's enrollment is expected to again top 12,000 students.
All the elementary schools and the Families and Children's Educational Services center, which is now located at Burroughs- Molette Elementary School at 1900 Lee St., will be open 2-4 p.m.
The middle schools will conduct it from 3-5 p.m. Glynn Academy, Brunswick High School, the Performance Learning Center and Risley Learning Center's Success Academy will have open house 4-6 p.m. Students' schedules will be available at the high school open houses.
Glynn Academy will conduct its freshman orientation from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Students will receive their class schedules, then attend an assembly in the Memorial Auditorium. Pupils then will follow their class schedules in 15-minute increments.
A free lunch will be served. School buses will operate on their normal routes that day.
Parents can pick up their child's schedules beginning at 4:30 p.m. in front of Memorial Auditorium. A general parent orientation session will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a reception at 7 p.m.
"The goal of our orientation session is to help students and parents transition smoothly to high school," said Steve Waters, director of Glynn Academy's Freshman Academy.
Because it doesn't have a ninth grade center, there will be no freshman orientation at Brunswick High School, district officials said.
There will be no student registrations during the open houses, officials said.
The school system is using a centralized registration system this year for parents enrolling their children in the district for the first time.
All new students will register at the Glynn Academy Cafeteria from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. today, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. After that, registration will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily at the District Learning Center in the Adult Learning Center complex at 2401 Stonewall St.
Parents must bring their child's birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of immunizations and a certificate stating the youngster has received eye, ear and dental examinations within one year prior to enrolling in the district.
To find out which school a child is zoned to attend, parents should call the school system's Transportation Department at (912) [email protected], (912) 264-0405
