Wrist Bands Raise Funds

Six Nelson schools are this week helping to support some of the world's poorest people.

Nayland College, Hampden St School, Lower Moutere School, Riwaka School, Motueka High School and Murchison Area School are selling $2 woven "friendship bracelets" to raise funds for Volunteer Service Abroad.

The organisation sends volunteers around the world to help development in impoverished communities.

Hampden St pupil Tanika Langbridge, 11, at right in the photo, whose aunt has gone to Cambodia as a health worker with VSA, said her school had sold the bracelets for three years.

Last year, the project raised $400, said her classmate Jordyn Grenfell, 10, at left.

This year, the school is again expecting to sell all of its 200 bracelets on Friday, when sale stalls will be set up outside classrooms.
