YOUNGSTERS in the region got into the Olympic spirit when they visited their future school.
Hundreds of Year Six pupils from Monkton Junior School, in South Tyneside, visited South Shields Community School for an introductory tour of the premises.
During their trip each one was able to show their creative side when they had the chance to design a medal and T-shirt based on the Olympic theme.
Janet Burdon, from support services at the school in McAnany Avenue, said: "Every year near the end of the final school term, we invite children from the feeder schools to come and have a look around.
"With the Olympics being held this year, we thought we would go along with the theme."
