August 20, 2008

By Jobetta Hedelman

A second grade teacher at Adams Elementary School in Wapato was the first-prize winner in an annual program that recognizes teachers’ commitment to child safety.

Dora Alvarez-Roa received a $500 gift certificate for classroom supplies from the Honeywell and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s Got 2B Safe! Awards Program.

For the program, teachers are encouraged to submit lesson plans emphasizing how they have implemented the Got 2B Safe! rules for personal safety in their classroom. The program educates children and their families on how to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation.
