Hope College

BLOOMINGTON Two area residents were on a list of recent Hope College, Holland, Mich., bachelor’s degree recipients who have been awarded graduation honors.Area cum laude graduates are:Bloomington Jennifer Knight.Flanagan Sarah Roeschley.

CARBONDALE Emily J. Fitzgerald received her master of accountancy degree with a specialization in taxation from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on Aug. 2. She earned a bachelor of science in accounting in May 2007. In September, she will begin working at the public accounting firm of MPP & W, P.C. in St. Louis. She is the daughter of Mike Fitzgerald of Normal and Kim Fitzgerald of Hudson.

Washington Univ.

BLOOMINGTON Three area residents were among those graduating May 16 from Washington University, St. Louis, Mo.Area degree recipients are:Bloomington Kathryn J. Barnum, daughter of Mark and Kandis Barnum, a bachelor of arts degree in anthropology. LeRoy Stephanie Bandy, daughter of Joseph and Susan Bandy, a doctor of physical therapy.Morton Tim Gronewold, son of Gary and Jan Gronewold, a law degree.

MISCELLANEOUS

Flying FarmersCLINTON Zelda Thorp Lewis of Joliet, daughter of Ernest N. Thorp, rural Clinton, and the late Mary Ellen Thorp, was selected as the International Flying Farmers Woman of the Year for 2008-2009. The selection was made at the 64th annual convention of the IFF in Colorado Springs, Colo.She has been an IFF member all her life; has a pilot’s license; is a past IFF teen president and past IFF Duchess; and is an IFF teen adviser.Lewis grew up in rural Clinton and graduated from Wapella High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University and her Master of Science from the University of St. Francis, Joliet.

Baby Fold

NORMAL The Baby Fold has earned accreditation through the Council on Accreditation and Methodist-based Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading toward Excellence. The COA awarded The Baby Fold with Hague Accreditation, indicating substantial compliance with the Hague Convention standards for international adoption.A review team commended the agency on excellence in public awareness of career opportunities, comprehensive employee orientation, thorough annual reporting and networking with other organizations.

Eastern Illinois

BLOOMINGTON Jessica A. Thornton, daughter of Joe and Gwen Thornton of Bloomington, has received the Ralph Y. McGinnis Scholarship Award from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston.Thornton, a graduate student at EIU, is a 2005 graduate Normal Community High School. Her major is communication studies with a corporate concentration.

Livingston HCE

PONTIAC The Livingston County Home & Community Education Association (HCE) has awarded two scholarships.Sydney Eisenmann, daughter of David and Jackie Eisenmann of Forrest, received a $1,000 student scholarship. Eisenmann is a 2007 graduate of Parkside East High School (home school) and a 2008 graduate of Heartland Community College.Robin Holzhauer of Saunemin received a $300 scholarship. She is taking online courses to receive her Bachelor of Arts in health care administration.

Rodeo foundation

CARLOCK Reid Basting of Carlock was awarded a National High School Rodeo Foundation scholarship while competing at the National High School Rodeo Finals held in Farmington, N.M., in July.Basting is the son of Catherine Metsker and Grant Basting of rural Carlock. A 2008 graduate of Normal Community West High School, he will attend Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and major in finance.

Creighton Univ.

BLOOMINGTON Jennifer Burge, daughter of Wilson and Susan Burgeof Bloomington, has received the Foster Sims Scholarship award at Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Neb.The scholarship is awarded to sophomore dental school students on the basis of their academic performance during their first year of the four-year dental school.Burge is a 2004 graduate of Bloomington High School.

NORMAL Emily A. Caldwell, of Normal, is the recipient of an academic scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2008 fall semester. Caldwell is receiving the Dean’s Scholarship Award, which is valued at $6,000.Caldwell, who is a 2008 graduate of University High School, is the daughter of Richard J. Caldwell and Colleen P. Caldwell.

Leadership camp

FLANAGAN Hannah Ketring, a high school junior from Flanagan, and her debate team partner, Noel Gordon from Henderson, Nev., won iDebate: Developing Leaders with Gen. Tommy Franks, a weeklong leadership camp. The final debate featured two teams, three professional judges, two celebrity judges and a moderator from Fox News.
