Hermosa Beach School District Needs New Leaders

August 27, 2008

Facing a new school year without a superintendent and two top school administrators, the Hermosa Beach City School District will host a town hall meeting Thursday.

School board members hope to discuss with residents what qualities they should seek in candidates for Hermosa Valley School’s principal and vice principal, as well as a new district superintendent.

Join the discussion in the multipurpose room of Valley School, 1645 Valley Drive, at

5 p.m.

Valley’s principal will become principal of Hermosa View School, the district’s other institution, and its vice principal has relocated to the East Coast, said Lance Widman, the board president.

Hermosa school board members could select an interim replacement for outgoing Superintendent Sharon McClain, as well as a recruitment firm to find a permanent district leader, Widman added.

After serving Hermosa schools since 2003, McClain has accepted a similar position in the Del Mar Union High School District.
