Hodes Introduces Bill to Aid School Districts
New Hampshire U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes says he’s introduced a bill to help school districts afford transportation services and heating costs this winter.
The Energy for Schools Act would award grants to states to offset the rising costs of energy to power school bus fleets and school buildings.
Local education agencies would be able to apply to the federal government for assistance.
Special consideration would be given to those rural school districts that have to buy more gas for their school buses.
According to the New Hampshire Department of Education, it cost nearly $540 per student for transportation during the 2007-08 school year.
