The citizens group fighting for passage of the Nov. 4 referendum on funding for Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. construction projects is taking its campaign to cyberspace.

Citizens Supporting Schools launched its Web site, www.citizens

supportingschools.com, on Thursday.

The site invites Vanderburgh County residents to join the organization as well as contribute to its pro-referendum campaign.

The donations page isn’t fully functioning yet, but it will be by next week, said Jenn Kempf, who created the site with Andy Higgins.

Site holds presentation

Also on the site is a copy of the PowerPoint presentation given by EVSC Superintendent Vincent Bertram about the school system’s plans.

Those plans include a new high school and middle school in the McCutchanville area; major renovations at Cedar Hall, Glenwood, Lincoln and Lodge schools, which are to become K-8; and expansions of Stockwell and Highland elementary schools and Plaza Park Middle School.

Also included in the plan are preschool programs at the existing North High School, Daniel Wertz Elementary School and the building that is now Culver Elementary.

The existing North High School would become a middle school, and some students from crowded Scott Elementary School would relocate to Oak Hill, a middle school that would become K-5.

Citizens Supporting Schools is a newly created political action committee that will be coordinating pro-referendum efforts.

Its officers are Chairwoman Lisa Boyle, Vice Chairman Andy Higgins, Treasurer Al Umbach and Secretary Ann Ennis.

Those who want to donate to the organization but don’t wish to do so online can mail checks to Citizens Supporting Schools, 122 N. St. Joseph Ave., Evansville, IN 47712.
