By Leslie Hague
The Batavia School Board approved a new principal for Hoover- Wood Elementary School on Tuesday.
Lew Girmscheid, now the principal of Prairie Point Elementary School in Oswego, will start in July.
Principal Beth Wackerlin resigned earlier this year.
Girmscheid lives in Batavia with his wife and four children.
“It’ll be nice to do what I love in the city I live in,” he said Wednesday.
He said his first order of business will be getting to know students, staff members and parents.
Superintendent Jack Barshinger said that Girmscheid’s leadership, as well as a knowledge of and commitment to the town, put him over the top.
He was interviewed by administrators, faculty, support staff and parents.
He will make $88,000 next year.
Girmscheid received his bachelor’s degree in art from Illinois State University and his master’s in education and teaching certificate at the University of St. Francis. He received his administrative certification from Aurora University.
Girmscheid has worked in the Oswego School District the past nine years.
He has taught fourth grade and elementary art, and has been an assistant principal and principal.
He was principal at Prairie Point when the school opened in 2005.
