Polycom Helps Santa Clara University Business School Prepare Graduates for the Global Business Environment
Partnering with Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the global leader in telepresence, video and voice communications solutions, the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University today announced that its new state-of-the-art business school facility named Lucas Hall, the most advanced of its kind in the world, features High Definition (HD) visual and voice communication solutions from Polycom. These solutions, which are located in every classroom, not only give students access to top global business executives via guest speaking opportunities, but also allow university students and faculty to interact and collaborate with other universities around the globe.
“Polycom’s HD video and voice conferencing solutions are essential business tools when teaching students how to interact with people on a global basis,” said Barry Posner, dean, the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. “Leveraging advanced technologies like Polycom’s telepresence solutions will help our graduates succeed and lead in a world where distance is not a barrier, where teams are virtual and global, and where the speed of business is accelerated.”
Located in the heart of Silicon Valley and the epicenter of technology innovation, the new futuristic business school building, which was dedicated Sept 14, 2008, is among the ‘greenest’ buildings on campus, constructed using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) guidelines to reduce energy consumption. Among the campus sustainability goals for the building are to reuse and recycle as much as 80 percent of paper waste generated in the building, as well as reducing water use in and around the facility.
The first classes will be held in the building when the Fall quarter commences. The Polycom solutions will be immediately used with the newly admitted Executive MBA class, whose responsibilities often require them to travel. These students will keep up with class sessions via video conferencing, viewing their instructor and fellow classmates over Polycom’s video systems. In addition, Leavey School of Business faculty will host guest speakers — colleagues from other universities and business executives around the world — using the new technology.
“We are partnering with Polycom because it is the world leader in industry standards-based HD communications solutions,” Dean Posner continued. “This equipment has set the standard for the University as we’ve created the most advanced business school facility in the world. From my own experience, I can tell you that the quality of the Polycom’s telepresence, video and voice experience is truly phenomenal.”
