Teachers, Students Get Together to Teach Police a New Lesson

By Swati Sethi

Jind: Others may have done a half-Monty or taken out a protest march blind-folded to get justice or draw attention to their plight, but students and teachers of a government school in Jind district decided on "Gandhigiri" to get the police to act on their complaint.

Peeved that police had not done anything to bring to book the miscreants who had molested some girls students and beat en up others, 50 students of Government Senior Secondary School, Gangoli, reached Pillukhera along with their teachers on Wednesday and went ahead with the morning assembly and classes right outside the police station.

When curious onlookers and policemen asked them the reason for this, the students had this to say: "We had lodged a complaint with the police on September 18 and another on September 24 about the incident which occurred when we were returning from Gohana after appearing in the supplementary board examination . But the cops have failed to take any action against the accused. And students are now hesitant to appear in the next paper until the miscreants are arrested."

The teachers and students also made it clear that they wanted immediate arrest of the accused and deployment of cops in buses in which girl students travel . The SDM of Safidon, who reached there on hearing about the "gandhigiri" , assured them of prompt police action.

When contacted by The Times of India on Thursday, a police personnel on duty at Pillukhera police station stated, "The police have registered a case against four persons and arrested Sonu and Bholu while Deepak and Kalu are absconding."
